Glittery Puffy Hearts is my favorite forgotten breakfast cereal.

Ha! I think I said the hting about mashups and you agreed. Like you said. Weird.

The first 4 songs ont he Drive soundtrack all have that minimal synthpop feel that on the one hand I'm like "Have we gone back 25 years?" and on the other I want a bigger serving of same. THe longer version o the song i posted here reminds me of the dreaded "Off the Deep End" by SPK. Do I have video? Sadly no. But I guess I'll get an MP3 so others can enjoy the horror of that song.

Getting up at noon sounds good. Don't ever change. Sparky will like that!

I'm not a fan of music in movies but this week's blog is pointing out some fine exceptions to the rule. wait 'til you hear NWR's other soundtracks! (oh yea, and those little visual epics too). Albert Brooks deserved an shiny golden dildo award nod at the very least because he was brutally awesome and out of his element. at least, i hope he hasn't been suppressing that personality all these years.
i don't remember saying that about mash-ups but i agree with it. i think i just parroted what you said about them being novelties except for a hamster's handful which have perfectly matched harmonies. voila! new song.
i love "Under Your Spell" by Desire (don't get sued now) and its girl group breakdown transforming to an Outkast nod!?
speaking as someone who is locked in those years, i promise to get off your lawn and not steal those traffic pylons, ya Mayor of Carmel!
once again, your blog gives me reason for waking up at noon.

Along with Partridge and Barry Andrews in Monstrance? That's Martyn Barker, who's often the drummer for Shriekback.

(And you're right--that Rufus Thomas track is amazing.)

Peter has that improv Cd. I've got to steal/borrow it form him. Who's the other musician on it?

Glad this post worked for you. If Rufus THomas don't then hell, nothing will!

Shriekback, Yes, Trevor Horn--you're hitting all my favorites here, Chang. (And I remember falling victim to that Slade earworm, too.) I'll have to check out the other tracks. Meanwhile, some music-geekiness of the did-you-know variety: There's a nice accapella version of Leave It out there. Trevor Horn's been working with them again, with the album they put out this past summer (large portions of which actually began as old Buggles demos). More their grandiose mode than their shiny 80's mode, though. And the Shrieks have also continued to make records, including an improvisational side project with XTC's Andy Partridge. OK, I'll stop now. But thanks for the music!

i came here three times to write something. i know something about this but apparently not well enough to write words that satisfy the truth of it. so i walked away. but i've been trying to learn to speak when it's time; not when that time is past. that's one of the things i know about this. so i thought i could at least tell you that i read it. i thought it was a great tribute; for all the things you didn't say as well as what you said - that you didn't try to fully explain the personal joke between you. alluding to it - i can see you smiling at each other and feel a warmth which is of course the only relevant part. so yeah, i read it and grieved for you - someone i only vaguely know - and even a bit with you for someone i don't know at all. but i also took that warmth between you two from all those years ago with me and hopefully, as you say, "shed" it somewhere.
